NDIS

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing support for people with disability, their families and carers in Australia.  The NDIS aims to put choice and control in the hands of the participant, giving the participant (or their representative) the ability to choose who provides a service or support, how these are provided and where they are provided.

What is happening in the Illawarra / Shoalhaven areas now?

The NDIS is progressively being rolled out in the Illawarra / Shoalhaven Local Government Areas over the 2017 / 2018 financial year, this means that some individuals and families will start to receive services through NDIS funding sooner than others.  Provided that individuals still have a need, those currently receiving services will keep receiving existing services until they transition to the scheme.  Noah’s continues to provide services to children and young people aged up to 18 years.

For further details on how the NDIS is being rolled out within NSW please visit the NDIS Website.  Existing services will remain in place whilst people transition to the scheme.

What about Noah’s Inclusion Services and the NDIS?

Noah’s Inclusion Services is a registered provider and plan manager within the NDIS.  We are registered to deliver multiple services under the scheme and can assist families / individuals with their plan management if required; in fact Noah’s is an Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) partner.  To find out what being an ECEI partner means, head to our ECEI page.

Noah’s actually commenced assisting some families under the NDIS prior to the official roll out into the Illawarra / Shoalhaven; the reason for this is that some families moved into the Illawarra / Shoalhaven from an area that was accessing the scheme before July 1.  This not only gave the Noah’s team some early insight into how the scheme works it also highlights one of the great benefits of the NDIS; the portability of the funding.  Portability means that when a person moves town, city or even interstate, they take their allocated funding with them.
